He’s a’comin’ home

Hi

our friend, John Dempsey, Christie’s husband, is one day away from home now.  He made it to Lacrosse Wi yesterday, but is too far from home to make it today.  He will, tomorrow, barring bad weather, be arriving in his driveway.  John, and a friend, as you remember, flew to Seattle, shipping their bikes, and then starting riding east.  His friend had to drop out in Dakota, but John continued on, making it almost all the way home.

What a story, what drive, what a guy. It would make a great documentary. . .

Keep your fingers crossed, and him in your thoughts and prayers. . .

Not enough time. . . too much fun. . .

Aren’t we something?  Going places and doing all sorts of things.  Wears a body out just thinking about it.  No, no bike ride this weekend, but we did sign up at a fitness club.  Yup, both of us.  Not that we’ll be working out together, but I already do 3 times a week and it will be fun to take a “spin” class together.  Not fun in a “whee, that was fun!” kind of way, more like a “well if I have to sweat this much it’s nice to know the person I’m sweating next to” kind of way.
For those of you who don’t know a spin class is a kick your butt kind of class on exer cycles.   So see, it’s biking indoors. Really fast and hard.

I’m kind of excited about it.  Lots more machines to work out on and classes to do.  whoo hoo!  Fitness is fun!  Well, it may not be fun, but it’s necessary for me.  So I’m planning to make the most of it.

Then we had friends over on  Saturday night.  Always nice to stop for a while and just visit and catch up on things.
Sunday we went over to Woodstock IL for their Harvest Festival.  Music was involved of course and we did do a short gig on the open mic stage.

It was a beautiful day to be outside enjoying music and friends.

Woodstock’s a very pretty town and they actually have a thriving musical community there that appreciates acoustic music.  Since we have only come across this in the past couple of years I hope it continues for a long while.  To think this has been going on so close to us for so long and we didn’t even know about it.

We ran into people we’ve met at other various jams and musical events and jammed with some folks we just met and had a overall good time.  Found out about some other musical stuff coming up in the near future.  Can’t wait.  Makes you want to quit your jobs and just have fun all the time.  Only problem is you wouldn’t be able to do many fun things without any cash, so I guess we’ll keep working during the week and fill the weekends up with fun till we can’t stand it any more.  As a matter of fact we arrived home early evening yesterday and I pretty much just  went to bed.  All this “good time having” is exhausting.

Another Pleasanton Valley Sunday. . .

Morning,

it’s been a great weekend, ‘cept for the weather. . . Brrrrrrr. A new low temp on Sat. morning, but it’s been sunny and dry. Went to the farmers market in the north end, and though it’s much smaller than the Madison Wi. farmers market, it was full of fresh produce and baked goods. . . mmmm mmm. Nothing like fresh produce. Well, then otherwise, it would be fresh produce. . . duh. . . Anyway, we went the next step in our quest for better health, we joined a local health club. Nice place, and, they have spin classes. No, that’s not a class for politicians staff members to twist a visit to the mens room into something positive, it’s a stationary bike class that is supposed to be the bee’s knees. . . that’s way cool for all of you under 60.

Saturday evening, we had our friends Shirley, from Pleasanton Ca., an almost Pleasantville kinda town, over for dinner, along with Jeff and Nancy. Hadn’t been together for a while, and it was nice. Grilled out, and talked late into the night. We have a wonderful group of really intelligent, interesting people as friends. Life would be so boring without them.

Today, we are headed out, after coffee, lots of coffee, to Woodstock to the Harvesfest. Our friends Jan and Mark, without Mike today, are playing sometime there. It’s a kind of mini folk festival/ autumnal celebration, or so I’m told. Our first time there. There will be pics later @ Flickr.

Well, we’re off, so, go do something adventurous. . .

Bye

Friday update

Hi

here Friday comes up on us again, so quickly. The Labor Day weekend is long past, along with my birthday and our anniversary. 12 years (our anniversary)- how can time go by so fast? Must be because when things are as they should be, they pass with lightning speed. What a lucky man I am.

Tonight, our neighbors are taking us out to dinner for our anniversary, and it’s also my mom’s birthday.

Tomorrow, we will go over with lunch, and visit for awhile. Tomorrow evening, we are going out to dinner with friends, and then to a play. Too much fun to choose from. Sunday, hopefully a bike ride, and then, back to work for another grueling week. Who says slavery is dead in America? “Work ‘em like rented mules”. That’s our motto.. .

Sorry. . . Anyway, have a good weekend. . .
